What is a Social Enterprise Business?

Batsu comes from Costa Rica’s Bri-Bri. A language spoken by the indigenous people of the Talamanca mountain range. Some people translate it as meaning “hope” and is commonly represented by a hummingbird. Colibri is the Spanish word for a hummingbird.

Batsu Colibri "Brings you the hope of the Hummingbird" by partnering directly with Tico Artisans. At Batsu Colibri our hope is to connect the diverse communities of the world to our great-tasting coffee and sustainable artisan relationships.

Social enterprises are businesses created to further a social purpose in a financially sustainable way. Social enterprises:

  • Provide income generation opportunities that meet the basic needs of people who are connected to the business.

  • Are sustainable. Earned income from sales is reinvested in their mission. They do not depend on philanthropy and can sustain themselves over the long term.

  • Are scalable. Their models can be expanded or replicated to other communities to generate more impact.
